Support & Volunteer
Ways Americans can directly support vulnerable Afghans abroad and in our communities
Americans have been declaring loudly that they want to support vulnerable Afghans – and there are many ways to do so! From donating money to volunteering your time, there are ways for everyone to welcome.
How Do I Help?
Through monetary contributions, or services, donating is a great way to support organizations on the front lines of emergency response.
Many of us want to make sure our donations have the most significant impact possible, and when there is such great need, it can be hard to know where to start. Here are a few things to consider as you donate:
- Where do I want my help to go? If you want to support Afghans in Afghanistan or those who are somewhere along their process of fleeing, consider giving directly to impacted persons or established international organizations who are on the ground. If you want to support US welcoming efforts, consider any of RCUSA’s member organizations or other local community groups.
- How do I know what’s needed? Every resettlement office around the country is going to have different needs, so be sure to check-in with your local resettlement offices first to see what goods or services are most critically needed. You can find your local resettlement offices by searching your zip code on the RCUSA map.
- What do I have to contribute? Each person is going to have access to different resources and skills, but there are ways for everyone to help. If you’re a business owner or land lord, you can donate your services directly to resettlement offices; most important is to check-in with the organizations in your community leading the work.
