Take Action: Commemorate World Refugee Day on June 20th and Urge Congress to Reject Harmful “Budget Reconciliation” Bill

World Refugee Day—held annually on June 20th—is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the resilience and courage of those fleeing violence and persecution globally. It serves as a call to action for governments and communities to strengthen their efforts in providing safe haven, resources, and opportunities for refugees and other displaced people to rebuild their lives.

Since the House passed its “budget reconciliation” legislation, right now, the Senate is currently preparing its “budget reconciliation” bill that would unprecedentedly strip access to basic human needs programs, like Medicaid, Medicare, and SNAP/food assistance, for refugees, other humanitarian populations, and our immigrant neighbors – diverting these resources to expand immigrant detention and mass deportations. Should the Senate bill pass, it would have sweeping and harmful impacts on refugees, newcomers, and other marginalized communities.
