Refugee Council USA Welcomes Five New Board Members

Washington DC — Refugee Council USA (RCUSA) is proud to welcome and congratulate five outstanding new members to our Board of Directors. 

The new members, each elected to a three-year term at last week’s Annual Meeting of RCUSA Members, are Basma Alawee, Deputy Executive Director of the Community Sponsorship Hub; Joseph Azam, Associate General Counsel, Global Ethics & Compliance at Cisco, and Board member of the Afghan-American Foundation; Amber French, Executive Director at Democracy House; Katherine Rehberg, Chief Operating Officer of Church World Service; and Nili Sarit Yossinger, Executive Director of Refugee Congress.

In addition, two current members of the RCUSA Board have been re-elected to a three-year term: Rachel Perić, Executive Director of Welcoming America; and Naomi Steinberg, Vice President for Policy and Advocacy at HIAS.

“We are beyond thrilled to welcome Basma, Joseph, Amber, Katherine, and Nili onto RCUSA’s Board of Directors, and to have Rachel and Naomi continue their service to the Board. Each brings unique strengths, a wealth of leadership experience, and a personal commitment to RCUSA’s mission of mobilizing expertise, ideas, and influence to protect the rights of forcibly displaced people and build more welcoming societies,” stated John Slocum, RCUSA’s Executive Director.
