Action Alert: As the U.S. Resettles Afrikaners, Urge Your Members of Congress to Protect All Refugees & Invest in the U.S. Resettlement Program

It's essential that Congress invests in and safeguards refugee and humanitarian programs that rescue refugees abroad

On Monday of this week, a group of 59 Afrikaners (white South Africans) were welcomed to the United States by the Trump administration through refugee resettlement. The Afrikaners’ applications for resettlement were processed at lightning speed – in a matter of weeks, rather than the months or even years that refugee processing typically takes.

Meanwhile, nearly all other refugee processing has been frozen, leaving tens of thousands of people in limbo. The Trump administration indefinite refugee ban remains in place for all other populations – and this despite court interventions ordering a resumption of the program, at least for certain refugees who had previously been vetted and approved for travel before Donald Trump took office. Apart from that small group of Afrikaners, vanishingly few if any refugees are being resettled, and contracts for critical refugee services both domestically and abroad remain suspended. RCUSA’s statement in response is available here
